Sophie Hubert // Her Picks

Sophie Hubert of Sophie H

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Sophie and I grew up in a pioneer family of organic food composed of a French mother, a Belgian father, my sister and I. My father launched an organic shop back in the 70’s and ran it, together with my mother, for more than 40 years.

My parents never imposed us a way to follow and were confident in our ability to find our own path in life. I am very grateful for that because it allowed us to be able to follow our intuition and have our own experiences.

There is no doubt that I got inspired by this environment to become what I am today. Naturally, my values are reflected in my projects and it was therefore obvious to make SOPHIE H a sustainable fashion brand.

What does a day in the life look like for you Sophie?
I’m a morning person and like to wake up early in the morning. I always start the day by drinking lemon tea and practicing yoga before going to work. After this routine, every day is different. An entrepreneur always has something different to develop, create, and care about… It is very interesting and instructive.

In the evening, I like to have a walk with my dog and always finish the day by being grateful for my day.

What was most important to you as you built your company?
To be phased with my values and to follow my intuition.

What has been one of your biggest career challenges? How did you overcome it?

Creating SOPHIE H!

The idea of designing clothes came up in 2013. At this time, I was working in the financial sector, far from the fashion industry. I took time to clearly define the project and started to concretely work on SOPHIE H in 2015. I finally launched it in March 2017, still with my full-time job on the side. It wasn’t always easy to work after a day at the office, during weekends and holidays, but when you feel that it has to be done, the motivation is always there!

About one year ago it was getting harder and harder to balance both activities and life showed me that I had to leave my job in the financial sector. Life is a perpetual motion, the only thing to do is to follow its flow.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Advice from my partner: Trying is already succeeding.

What are three of your go-to podcasts to listen to in your free time?
For now, I don’t listen to podcasts and instead prefer reading books. My favorite books tend to be the ones that teach something about myself. I’m currently reading a famous book from Paulo Coelho named The Alchemist.

We’re all about woman empowerment here at Amarilo. Which woman has made a significant impact in your life?

Mentioning only one woman would be too reductive as a lot of women have had a significant impact in my life. I've traveled around Asia and met so many incredible women. Their difficult conditions, braveness and unconditional smile have been a life lesson I hold dearly. I'd also like to highlight my mother who was and is still important to me. From her, I inherited my creativity and artistic sense. Thanks to her, I learned the importance of childhood in everybody’s life.

Is there something you would like to share about yourself we did not ask?
Just advice in regards to something i've experienced: Your thoughts determine your life so be vigilant in what you think.
